GENERATION EQUALITY FORUM
The Generation Equality Forum took place in Mexico City from 29 to 31 March and in Paris from 30 June to 2 July 2021. The Forum brought together stakeholders from all sectors to launch a 5-year action agenda. The Forum launched over 1,000 commitments with an aggregate estimated value of US$40 Billion in financial commitments. Through the Action Coalitions and Compact on Women, Peace and Security and Humanitarian Action that were launched at the Forum, trailblazing stakeholders are advancing irreversible progress towards gender equality and the Sustainable Development Goals.

ACCOUNTABILITY FOR ACTION
Accountability and transparency are critical to the success of Generation Equality. For the initiative to achieve meaningful progress, Action Coalition Leaders, Commitment Makers and Compact Signatories must report transparently on their commitments and demonstrate that they have met their promises for women and girls.
Through a consultative process UN Women has established Accountability Frameworks for the Action Coalitions and Compact. These frameworks and processes will help to show progress on the delivery of commitments and generate data for analysis. The qualitative and quantitative data that will be made available will enable global advocacy efforts and help ensure an inclusive accountability process for Generation Equality.
Commitments tracking and reporting will be carried out annually and consist of three elements:
1. The Commitments Dashboard
2. A self-assessed Commitments Reporting Survey for Action Coalition Leaders, Commitment Makers, and other stakeholders
3. An Annual Accountability Report that aggregates survey results and findings across the frameworks
The Global Acceleration Plan sets out global ‘blueprint’ targets for gender equality that build on and complement targets on the Sustainable Development Goals. Priority actions aligned to each commitment will drive progress towards these blueprint targets and, by extension, acceleration towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals. Every two years, UN Women will assess progress towards the global blueprint targets set by Action Coalition Leaders.
One of the core aims of Generation Equality is to achieve a gender-transformative impact on structures and systems. Action that enables transformative change has been jointly defined by stakeholders as: dismantling patriarchal structures; addressing multiple and intersecting forms of discrimination; reducing inequalities; redistributing power; and making tangible improvements in the lives of women and girls in all their diversity.
Stories aim to capture the impact of Generation Equality implementation on the lives of women, girls and gender-diverse people. The stories illustrate partner’s personal experiences of change throughout the process of implementing commitments pledged through Generation Equality. These stories will be complemented by case studies commissioned each year by UN Women.
