Impact Story | Gender-Based Violence
Kenya’s promise to eradicate harmful practices

The Government of Kenya’s 12 commitments aim to end all forms of gender-based violence and female genital mutilation (FGM) in the country by 2026. In the first year of implementation, Kenya has collected data on gender-based violence through the 2022 Kenya Demographic and Health Survey (KDHS), established an emergency toll-free line for gender-based violence assistance and general emergency responses; 54 private shelters and rescue centres now operate in 18 counties.
